Crestron has a strong reputation for serious automation, and deservedly so. It has been used in boardrooms, hotels, luxury homes, yachts and commercial environments for many years. But when a homeowner is planning a residential automation system, the right question is not simply “what is the most advanced Crestron system I can buy?”

The better question is: what does this home actually need?

That is where the difference between Crestron Home and a more traditional custom-programmed Crestron system becomes important.

Traditional Crestron programming still has its place. There are projects where bespoke code, unusual third-party systems, specialist commercial requirements or highly custom interfaces justify that route. The most expensive route is not always the best route

A professionally designed Crestron quotation can be overwhelming. Homeowners often look at the number and ask a fair question: how can a lighting or control system possibly cost this much?

Crestron Home gives homeowners a polished control experience across touch screens, phones, tablets, remotes and keypads. The system can organise rooms, scenes and daily routines in a way that makes sense to the people living in the property.

  • A Goodnight scene can switch off selected lighting, prepare key areas and simplify the end of the day.
  • An Entertain scene can bring patio lights, music zones and feature lighting together.
  • A Movie scene can prepare the display, source, audio and lighting in one action.
  • A keypad near an entrance can provide simple room or area control without needing a phone.

That is the value of residential automation. The client should not have to think about processors, source routing, network dependencies or load types. The home should simply behave properly.

When custom Crestron programming may still make sense
