Wi-Fi is often tested too early.

During construction, the rooms are empty. Doors may be off. Furniture is missing. Mirrors, appliances, curtains, artwork and cabinetry may not be installed. The signal can look acceptable on a quick test.

Then the family moves in and the real house appears.

Roaming is about movement, not one signal reading

Large homes are not used from one fixed point.

People move from bedroom to passage, passage to kitchen, kitchen to patio, patio to garden, garage to study, or main house to cottage. A phone, tablet or laptop should move between access points smoothly enough that the client does not think about it.

That needs a walking test.

Doors and furniture change the environment

South African homes often include concrete, brick, glass, stone, steel, mirrors and thick doors.

Furniture can change how people use a room. A desk may end up in a different corner from the drawing. A television may move. A bed may block a planned route. A study nook may become a serious work area. A patio door may stay closed most of the time.

The final Wi-Fi test should respect the final home.

The test should follow real routines

A useful roaming test is not only a speed test.

It should follow the client’s likely paths: carrying a phone from the main bedroom to the kitchen, walking from the entertainment area to the pool, using a tablet in the study, checking camera access near the gate, or streaming music on the patio.

The question is simple: does the network feel stable where people actually live?

Access points may need tuning

Sometimes the answer is not adding more hardware.

Transmit power may need adjustment. Channels may need review. A nearby access point may be too strong. A weak area may need a wired access point rather than an extender. The network may need small, informed tuning after the home is occupied.

That is normal commissioning, not failure.
