The router is not just the internet box.
In a serious smart-home, CCTV or AV system, it may hold the logic that helps everything communicate: IP reservations, DHCP ranges, port rules, VPN access, DNS settings, network segmentation and remote-support paths.
That is why router admin rights should be part of the support conversation.
Router changes can break stable systems
A fibre provider replaces a router.
An IT company installs new hardware.
A well-meaning person resets the network.
The internet may come back, but the smart-home system may not.
Static devices may have moved. Reservations may be gone. Remote access may be broken. Cameras may not be reachable. Touchscreens may reconnect differently. Streaming devices may appear in the wrong place.
Admin access creates responsibility
Router admin rights should not be handed around casually.
Whoever manages the router can affect the whole technology environment. That person or company should understand what depends on it.
In some homes, the IT provider manages the network. In others, the home integrator manages it. Sometimes both need to coordinate.
The worst case is when nobody is clearly responsible.
IP reservations are not decoration
IP reservations may look like boring settings, but they can be essential.
CCTV recorders, control processors, managed switches, access points, media devices and remote-support tools may depend on predictable addressing. If those addresses change unexpectedly, the failure may look like a camera fault, app fault or automation fault.
The router is often where that stability begins.
The support boundary should be written down
The client should know who manages what.
If the internet provider changes hardware, who must be notified? If the IT company updates firewall settings, who checks the automation system afterwards? If the home integrator needs remote support, what access method is approved?
Those questions should be settled before a fault.
