Renovating a home with existing technology can either save money or waste money.

The best time to inspect a smart home is before the renovation has moved too far.

Once ceilings are closed, joinery is installed and walls are finished, every missing conduit becomes harder to fix. Once old access points are covered, future cable replacement becomes harder. Once speaker positions are moved without thinking, audio coverage can suffer. Once TV positions are finalised without conduit, the room may need visible cabling or compromises.

Before renovation, the technology team should review:

  • fibre and internet entry route
  • Wi-Fi access point locations
  • TV points and conduit sizes

  • Can the network and CCTV equipment stay online during power failures?
  • Will the door or panel allow maintenance?

A beautiful cabinet that cannot be serviced is not a luxury result. It is an expensive problem with nice hinges.

A renovation inspection can shape the quote

One of the most valuable parts of a pre-renovation inspection is that it changes the quotation conversation.

Instead of guessing, the installer can say:

“This cable can be reused.”

“This route should be protected.”

“This equipment is not worth keeping.”

“This area needs new conduit before the ceiling closes.”

“This rack position will cause heat problems.”
