Remote power control can be extremely useful.

Not every user should have access to every reboot function.

A homeowner may safely restart a media player.

Support may need access to more technical outlets.

Some outlets may need to be restricted completely.

This is not about making the system difficult to use. It is about protecting the property from accidental downtime.

Remote rebooting should be logged

If a device is restarted remotely, the action should be recorded.

That record helps future support.

If a decoder is rebooted every week, there may be a deeper issue. If a camera power supply needs frequent resets, the power path should be inspected. If a network device requires repeated cycling, the network or firmware may need attention.

Without a record, recurring problems look isolated.

Power control does not replace good power design

Remote reboot capability is a support tool.

It is not a substitute for proper UPS planning, surge protection, ventilation, stable networking or correct restart order.

If a system constantly needs remote resets, something is wrong.

The goal is not to make unstable systems easier to reboot.

The goal is to give support a controlled way to recover specific devices when recovery is appropriate.

Useful, controlled, documented
