Mounting a TV is not the same as finishing the TV system.

The client does not only need a screen on the wall. They need to turn it on, choose the right source, change channels, adjust volume, use streaming devices, understand the remote and know what to do when something does not respond.

That is why remote and decoder control should be designed before TVs are mounted.

The decoder location changes everything

If a decoder sits behind the TV, remote control is simple but the wall may look untidy or become hard to service.

If the decoder sits in a cabinet, the wall can look cleaner, but control must be planned. The system may need IR repeaters, control wiring, HDMI extension, network access, ventilation and source labelling.

Neither option is automatically right.

The correct answer depends on the room, furniture, client expectation and support plan.

Hidden sources still need reliable control

Clients often want clean TV walls with no visible boxes.

That is achievable, but hiding equipment creates responsibility. If the decoder, media player or matrix equipment is hidden, the control path must be reliable. The client should not have to open cupboards, point remotes at strange angles or guess which device is active.

Hidden equipment should make the room cleaner.

It should not make the room harder to use.

Guest rooms may need a different approach

The main homeowner may be comfortable with app control or a Crestron interface.

Guests may not be.

In guest bedrooms, holiday homes and staff-operated rooms, a familiar remote can sometimes be the simplest solution. In a main cinema or master suite, a more integrated interface may be better.

Good AV design is not about forcing one control method everywhere.

It is about choosing the least frustrating method for each room.

Bracket and cabinet decisions affect service

TV brackets, cabinet shelves and cable paths should be decided together.

If the bracket blocks cable access, the TV becomes painful to service. If the cabinet has no ventilation, sources overheat. If the HDMI cable is too short, the TV cannot be safely moved. If the IR emitter falls off inside a cabinet, channel control becomes intermittent.

These details sound small until the client cannot watch TV.

Handover should include normal mistakes

A proper TV handover should test real use.

Can the client change channels? Can they switch to streaming? Can they return to TV after someone presses the wrong button? Are remotes labelled? Are source names obvious? Does the volume behave as expected? Does shutdown turn off the correct devices?

If those questions are not tested, the system may pass installation but fail daily life.
