Client-supplied equipment is normal.

A homeowner may already own TVs, DStv decoders, Apple TVs, amplifiers, Blu-ray players, brackets, sound equipment or networking gear. Sometimes the equipment comes from the previous home. Sometimes it is purchased directly. Sometimes another supplier delivers it before the AV team arrives.

None of that is a problem.

But it does change the scope.

An AV quotation is based on assumptions: what equipment is being supplied, where it will live, how it will be controlled, whether it fits, whether the brackets suit the screens, whether the decoders are active, whether the power points exist and whether the cabling routes match the final equipment plan.

When those assumptions change, the quote may need to change too.

A decoder is not just a decoder

DStv systems can become awkward when decoder locations, LNB type, remote control method and distribution design are not confirmed.

If the client already has decoders, DG Technologies needs to know what models they are, how many are being used, where each one will sit and whether they will be part of a wider distribution system.

Decoders connected to the same LNB may need correct frequency planning. Remote control may require IR eyes, RF planning or a different control strategy. A primary decoder in the wrong cabinet can affect multiple rooms. A decoder moved without power or signal provision can take down TV viewing elsewhere in the house.

That is why decoders cannot be treated as loose items that simply get plugged in at the end.

They are part of the system design.

TV brackets must match the room and the screen

A TV bracket looks simple until it is wrong.

The screen size matters. The VESA mounting pattern matters. The wall construction matters. The cable exit point matters. The final cabinet height matters. The bracket type matters. Some TVs need specific spacers or screw lengths. Some curved or unusually shaped screens may still work with standard brackets, but that should be checked before the installer is standing on site with the wrong hardware.

The bracket also affects future access.

A fixed bracket may look clean, but make HDMI changes difficult. A tilt bracket may help with viewing angle. A pull-out bracket may help with service access but require more depth and a stronger fixing.

This is not only about hanging a TV.

It is about making the TV usable and maintainable.

Existing amplifiers and sources need to be tested

DG Technologies often reuses good existing equipment when it makes sense.

But reused equipment must be tested and planned around.

An amplifier may work, but run hot in a new cabinet. An Apple TV may require firmware updates. A source may create HDMI handshake issues. An older device may not support the resolution the client expects. A remote may be missing. A power supply may be gone. A cable may be too short. A unit may need to be moved from one room to another.

Those are not reasons to discard everything.

They are reasons to check properly.

The honest approach is to reuse what still adds value and replace what will create frustration.

The quote should follow the real equipment list

If DG Technologies quotes to supply decoders, brackets or equipment and the client later supplies their own, the quotation should be revised.

If the client supplies equipment that requires extra installation time, additional cabling, different brackets, power changes, control changes or troubleshooting, that must also be recognised.

The goal is fairness.

The client should not pay for items no longer supplied.

The integrator should not be expected to absorb extra work caused by unknown equipment.

That is why a proper AV quote should remain tied to the final equipment list.

Clear scope prevents awkward conversations

The best time to confirm client-supplied equipment is before installation day.

DG Technologies wants to know:

  • which TVs are being used;
  • which brackets are already on site;
  • which decoders are active;
  • which Apple TVs or media players are staying;
  • which amplifiers can be reused;
  • where each source will live;
  • how each room will be controlled;
  • whether there is power and ventilation where equipment is moving;
  • whether any old equipment needs testing before reuse.

That information makes the installation smoother.

It also protects the client from surprise costs and protects the installer from impossible assumptions.

Client-supplied equipment is welcome.

It just has to be designed into the system, not discovered at the end.
