A Wi-Fi fault should not be solved by guessing.
If a client says the bedroom Wi-Fi is weak, the TV will not stream, or only some access points are online, the temptation is to blame the access point closest to the problem.
That is not always correct.
The fault may sit in the switch, cable, patch lead, router, power supply, PoE budget or uplink feeding that area.
Test before changing equipment
The first test should show the current condition.
Which access points are online? What speed is available? Which ports are active? Which rooms are affected? Is the same issue present on more than one device? Is the problem wired, wireless or both?
This baseline matters because it gives the repair something to compare against.
Without a baseline, nobody really knows whether the work improved the system.
Bypassing a suspected fault can prove the cause
On real support calls, a weak network may suddenly improve when a switch, port or cable route is bypassed.
That kind of test is useful because it separates symptoms from causes. If the internet connection is healthy but the room improves only after bypassing a switch, the access point may not be the problem at all.
The repair path becomes clearer.
Replace or repair the failed part of the chain, then retest.
A switch fault can look like many different faults
One failing switch can create several unrelated symptoms.
An upstairs room loses Wi-Fi. A TV loses Ethernet. Some access points disappear. A camera drops offline. The client may think several devices have failed, when one network component is causing the wider issue.
This is why the network cabinet must be part of the investigation.
The final test proves the repair
After the repair, the same areas should be checked again.
If a speed test was taken before, take another one after. If five access points should be online, confirm all five. If a TV was failing over Wi-Fi, test the actual streaming service. If the client complained about a specific room, test that room.
The client should not only be told the fault is fixed.
The repair should be proven.
