A TV can show that it is connected to Wi-Fi and still fail the client.

It may open a menu, show signal bars and appear online, but buffer during a movie or fail when the family actually uses it. For AV and home network support, that is not good enough.

TV connectivity should be tested with real use.

Signal is not the same as experience

Wi-Fi signal tells only part of the story.

A smart TV may connect to the network but still struggle because of poor throughput, a weak route back to the switch, congested Wi-Fi, an app problem, DNS issue, ageing TV software or a service provider fault.

The client does not care which part is technically responsible.

They care that the movie plays.

Streaming exposes intermittent faults

Short tests can miss real problems.

A streaming service may start quickly but fail after a few minutes. A TV may work during setup but buffer when the network is busy. An app may behave differently from a browser speed test.

Testing with the actual service the client uses gives a more honest result.

Wired is often better for fixed TVs

Where practical, important TVs should be hardwired.

That does not mean Wi-Fi is bad. It means a fixed device that streams high-bandwidth content should not always compete with phones, tablets and guest devices if a cable route is available.

Hardwiring can remove one variable from the support chain.

The room matters

TV support should happen in the room where the problem occurs.

The bedroom, cinema, pyjama lounge, guest room or outdoor entertainment area may each behave differently. Distance, walls, cabinets, switches and access point placement all affect the result.

Testing from the rack does not prove the room is comfortable to use.
